US Presidential Election Results by State, 1900 to 2012

This gif shows US presidential elections results by state, from 1900 to 2012. Blues indicate Democrat, reds indicate Republican. The blues and reds range from light to dark hues, depending on the popular vote results of the state: lighter colors indicate a win by the party’s candidate by a lower percentage of the popular vote, and darker colors indicate a win by a larger percentage of the popular vote.

How I made these maps: I gathered data from here into Excel, ran a macro that accesses Haskell code to convert an svg map of the US to Haskell in order to control the colors and insert the titles and color-code those. I have more to say on these results, but just wanted to put up what I now have and return to these soon.
